Another great article Orry and I think I’m going to try adding a supplement to my daily routine, this could just be the answer to my ongoing fatigue problem 🤞🏻
Your article has great timing! I was just the other day researching/trying to look up information about B12, and here is your insightful post! Perfect! Thank you!
B12 deficiency (severe) is life threatening. Also called megaloblastic anemia, its most common is gastric bypass patients and others with malabsorptive disorders. Tip: check your routine CBC. If your MCV is elevated (>100) this is good sign your B12 could be low. B12 levels are also routinely available at your PCP visit and often come back same day. Ask your doc to have them checked before taking B12. Taking “extra”B12 is neither helpful nor necessary.
Thanks Daniel for your professional insights. I even have read that over intake on B12 is linked to a higher cancer risk.
So as you mentioned it's best to check it with a doctor and then increase it if needed. Iam always careful with supplements especially synthetic ones. If someone feels to eat 5 eggs for more B12 intakte then this is one story but if someone gets overloaded on synthetic B12 supplements then this is another story. Always make sure to hold the balance and don't overload on anything.
As with many supplements, taking too much can bring you back to the very place you started when you were trying to alleviate a symptom(s). Taking too much B12 can again mimic neurological issues. R-lipoic acid helps to manage that should you get yourself into trouble. The symptoms of peripheral neuropathy (among other benefits) may also be alleviated by R- lipoic acid (300 mgb.i.d.) B12 is added to many supplements and seemingly benign items such as Emergen-C.
I have seen clients add B12 supplements and get a ton of energy back into their lives from that one change. Even if they were eating animal products all along.
Thanks Tim for this feedback. If they checked it with their Dr. first and they needed to increase their B12 then this is the way to live a better more fulfilled life. Great to hear that it's working for people.
No mention of actual food sources, meaning meat and other animal-based foods? That’s crazily biased and frankly an inexcusable omission.
