Iron is one of the most important micro nutrients but most us ignore it like anything 😭😭

What’s described seems more like iron disregulation, not necessarily a deficiency of iron.

Most Americans need to offload iron, not increase their intake. Tons of foods are “fortified” with iron including wheat, formula, etc.

Morley Robbins’ book “Cu-RE Your Fatigue” does a good job at addressing this topic. Highly recommend.

Thanks for your thoughtful comment, Ben! I really appreciate it.

You're absolutely right that iron dysregulation is often missed, and Morley Robbins' work highlights an important perspective. That being said, I think many Americans have problems not just with iron, but with their overall diet - especially the lack of whole, nutrient-dense foods.

With so many people turning to extremely processed and fortified products, the discussion around iron becomes even more complex. If we ate a truly whole foods diet, we could better manage iron intake through natural sources. However, as long as the standard American diet is heavily dominated by nutrient-poor processed foods, the nutritional challenges are much greater.

The bigger picture is not just about increasing iron, but restoring a baseline level of real nutrients. Only then can we effectively optimise things like iron balance.

Thanks for the mention Orry. Iron is essential indeed. Testing ferritin and iron levels together can also help gauge how much we need. I love my cast iron pans. I couldn’t live without them.
