What You’ll Need
The key to a good Ginger Shot is the right combination of fresh, nutrient-rich ingredients. Go for organic products to fully utilize every part of the fruit & root for maximizing its health benefits. I always prefer using fresh ingredients whenever possible, as powders can alter the texture of the final product.
Here’s your list you need:
Ginger: A powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant ingredient, rich in gingerol, that supports digestion and boosts the immune system.
Turmeric: It is known for its strong anti-inflammatory properties due to curcumin and supports joint health and general well-being.
Lemons: High in Vitamin C, they boost immunity and alkalize the body.
Cloves: Packed with anti-bacterial properties and antioxidants that support your body, while also offering a subtle depth of flavor.
Cinnamon Stick: Supports blood sugar balance and adds antioxidants to promote overall health.
Raw Honey: Rich in natural enzymes and antioxidants, it provides an energy boost while supporting immune health and soothing the throat.
As you can see, each ingredient brings its own unique benefits, which together create a powerful blend that promotes your overall health and well-being.
Quantities for 1 Liter of Ginger Shot
To prepare approximately 1 liter of ginger shot, you will need:
150g Fresh Ginger
50g Fresh Turmeric Root
1 Medium Organic Lemon
3-4 Cloves
1 Cinnamon Stick
1-2 Tablespoons Raw Honey (adjust to taste)
1 Liter filtered Water
Feel free to adjust the recipe to your taste. Personally, I like to add a bit more ginger for an extra kick of flavor and health benefits.
I mostly craft 2-3 liters to be prepared for approx. two weeks.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Preparation:
Wash all the fresh ingredients thoroughly to remove dirt and impurities.
Chopping and Blending:
Chop up the ginger and turmeric into rough chunks.
Chop up the lemen and keep it separate from ginger and turmeric.
Place the chopped ginger and turmeric with a bit of water into a food processor or blender.
Do the same with the lemon but keep it separately for later.
Blend until the mixture has a coarse, pulpy texture. (See the image for reference.)
Boiling:
Bring the water to boil in a large pot, then turn off the heat and place the pot on a cold plate.
Throw in the cloves and cinnamon stick.
After 5 minutes, add the ginger and turmeric blend to protect nutrients in the ideal 60°C–80°C (140°F–176°F) range.
Add the lemon after 30 minutes to keep the temperature below 70°C (158°F) to preserve its vitamin C.
Cover the pot and wait another 2 hours to let it cool down. Put it in the fridge overnight (or at least 12 hours). This keeps everything fresh, reduces oxidation and helps to preserve the nutrients.
Straining and Bottling:
After 12 hours, start by using a rough strainer to separate the bigger pieces of pulp from the liquid. Press down gently with a bowl or similar tool to help release more of the liquid.
Then strain the liquid using a fine mesh strainer.
Now stir in the honey thoroughly into the filtered liquid.
Funnel the strained liquid into sterilized glass bottles.
Store the bottles in the refrigerator for up to 2 week.
Enjoying and Serving Your Ginger Shot:
Shake the bottle well before serving to mix all the goodness inside.
Fill the ginger shot into a glass, sprinkle in some freshly ground pepper and add a small splash of olive oil for an extra health boost.
Take 1-2 shots daily for an energy and health boost. While mornings on an empty stomach are ideal for absorption, you can enjoy it anytime during the day when you need a refreshing booster.
Why Use Hot Water?
Using hot water in your ginger shot preparation isn’t just convenient, it’s the secret to getting the most out of your ingredients while protecting their nutrients. Here’s why it works so well:
Gets the Good Stuff Out: Heat helps release all the amazing nutrients like gingerols (from ginger), curcumin (from turmeric) and the flavorful oils from cinnamon and cloves straight into the water.
Gentle on the Body: The heat softens tough ingredients like ginger and turmeric, making their nutrients easier for your body to digest and absorb.
Keeps It Clean: Hot water naturally kills off any bacteria, so your ginger shot stays fresh and safe to drink.
Balances the Flavors: The warm water helps mix all the bold, spicy and sweet flavors into a smooth and delicious drink.
Why It Works
Each ingredient in this recipe contributes unique health benefits:
Ginger: Improves digestion, supports the immune system and reduces inflammation.
Turmeric: A natural anti-inflammatory powerhouse, perfect for joint health and overall wellness.
Lemon: Alkalizes the body and boosts Vitamin C levels.
Cinnamon & Cloves: Both are antioxidant-rich and help improve circulation.
Honey: Packed with antioxidants and natural enzymes, it strengthens immunity, boosts energy and soothes the throat.
Freshly ground Pepper (for serving): Enhances the absorption of curcumin from turmeric, amplifying its anti-inflammatory benefits.
Olive Oil (for serving): Enhances curcumin absorption from turmeric and provides heart-healthy fats for additional wellness benefits.

Thinks to Consider
Attention: Turmeric’s bold color can be pretty intense, so watch out, it might stain your clothes, teeth, or anything it touches! That’s why I always make sure to brush my teeth afterward!
If your stomach reacts too strongly to ginger then reduce the amount.
Call to Action
Mastering your nutrition isn’t just about eating well. It’s about incorporating rituals that nourish your body. Ginger Shots are an easy way to supercharge your days with minimal effort and maximum benefits.

Hi! Sounds yummy, but would the nutrients (such as vitamin C) not get oxidized over time and destroyed by the heat? Thanks :)
What to do with the pulp? Compost it?
